Open House

As part of Design Week Portland, Portland area designers will be opening their studios to the public. View designers’ work not normally featured in the store while hearing their back stories.  From the press release:

As part of the first annual Design Week Portland, Woonwinkel will give an open house tour of their shop on Thursday, October 11, from noon to 3:00 p.m.. They will highlight Portland area designers including Studio Gorm, Von Tundra, The Last Attempt at Greatness, Esque, Pigeon Toe, and others. Visitors can enjoy snacks, view special work not normally seen in the store, and hear the product backstories as well as the story behind Woonwinkel. Visitors can enter their names in a drawing to win pieces by Portland Designers.

Internationally acclaimed Studio Gorm will take over a corner of the store with both finished work and prototypes including their Peg Series. Partners in Studio Gorm, Wonhee Jeong and John Arndt met while pursuing MFAs at the Design Academy Eindhoven in The Netherlands. Their eclectic backgrounds include a BFA in ceramics, a BFA in sculpture, studies at a fine woodworking academy, and the study of the Japanese tea ceremony. This unique combination of experience is evident in work which is carefully considered, beautifully crafted, and warmly human. Since forming Studio Gorm they have worked with architecture office MVRDV, Studio Bertjan Pot, Droog Design, and have shown their work at the famed Salon de Mobile in Milan. They recently received a Red Dot design concept award for a wood fired camping stove. And their #3 fabric chair will be in the October issue of Wallpaper in an article about knock down furniture. Jeong and Arndt are professors of design at The University of Oregon.
