Summer 2021. For so many of us, it is a long-awaited season of reconnecting and re-establishing cherished traditions, like a genuine summer vacation to a beloved Oregon destination. Publisher Courtney Kutzman, her family and friends chose to celebrate this most-anticipated time with a truly special getaway to The Retreat at Caldera Springs — a luxury, resort-style vacation rental managed by Meredith Lodging. The Retreat proved to be a vacation in itself, and the ideal place to gather together and enjoy this home’s luxury interiors, gorgeous gathering spaces, and immediate proximity to endless adventures nearby.
The home is designed to feel like your own personal resort. Every inch of The Retreat is spectacular, but the outdoor space steals the show. The group enjoyed daily happy hours on the heated outdoor patio, endless putting contests on the backyard putting green, and frequent dips in the oversize hot tub. At night the kiddos loved to gather around the outdoor fire pit and toast s’mores (from kits by Portland-based 1927 S’mores), while the adults enjoyed a glass of wine in the modern Adirondack chairs.
Group meals were a delight with the double chef’s kitchen, and plenty of seating in the indoor and outdoor dining spaces. After dinner the dads put the kiddos to bed and the moms moved to one of the two guest casitas (each equipped with comfy king beds, cozy fireplaces, and kitchenettes complete with Keurig coffee makers), which they affectionately dubbed the “Mom Cave” and the “Escape Room”. Everyone agreed that the next visit to The Retreat would include turning one of the casitas into the at-home spa in the evenings.
Meredith Lodging has cruiser bikes available for guests at their Sunriver office nearby, making after-dinner bike rides a breeze along the beautiful and traffic-free Caldera bike paths. Every guest raved about the many on-property amenities with the Quarry Pool & Fitness Center (and that poolside food-and-drink service!), the Lakehouse and fire pits, Caldera Links golf course and Discovery Park playground being among the favorites. The many trails, lakes and streams were enjoyed by all as well.
With the amenities of Caldera Springs only a two-minute bike ride away, the group was able to take advantage of every early-summer sunbreak by biking to the playground, tennis courts and kids outdoor music play area. The soaking tub, storm watching, movies on the outdoor patio, and game room provided endless rainy-day activities. On the list for the next sunny Caldera trip: kayaking on Obsidian Lake and swimming in the incredible lake-front pool. Everyone left dreaming of their next visit to The Retreat.
