This “Home Away From Home” getaway with Meredith Lodging was an opportunity for Oregon Home publisher Courtney Kutzman and her family to get away to celebrate her husband, Nate’s, 40th birthday in the charming seaside community of Neskowin, at the company’s Neskowin South Beach Home.
Neskowin, Oregon, is a favorite coastal town among locals and visitors alike. Tucked into a stunning stretch of coastline between Lincoln City and Pacific City, this tiny, unincorporated beach community is known for its many hand-painted signs tacked up on trees and fenceposts reminding visitors to obey its 5 mph speed limit, take note of geological wonders like the Ghost Forest and Proposal Rock, and check out a beloved seasonal farmer’s market.
When you arrive at Meredith Lodging’s Neskowin South Beach Home, perched on top of Cascade Head, the endless ocean views will take your breath away. Wall-to-wall windows facing the Pacific offer expansive vistas overlooking Proposal Rock in Neskowin Village and continue north to Haystack Rock in Pacific City. As you adjust to the sights and sounds of the sea, you begin to notice the luxurious finer details throughout this light-filled home. You soak in all the beauty, from designer kitchen finishes like gleaming countertops and restaurant-quality, stainless-steel appliances to two cozy fireplaces and a comfortable TV area, plus a dining space that leads to a beautiful ocean-view deck, complete with inviting Adirondack chairs and an outdoor fireplace. The group spent one day exploring stunning Neskowin Beach and Proposal Rock and ended the day with Happy Hour at The Café on Hawk Creek. The calm and protected beach at Neskowin is very kid-friendly and is perfect for flying a kite, building a sandcastle or enjoying a picnic. After enjoying the delicious food at The Café at Hawk Creek, everyone loved stopping for a post-meal Tillamook ice cream from the adjacent Scoop Shop (open seasonally).
Day two was a birthday celebration day. The family’s adventures continued with a quick trip up the road to Pacific City. Everyone enjoyed a birthday lunch at oceanfront Pelican Brewing, followed by a hike up the magnificent (and steep) sand dune Cape Kiwanda. The group returned to Neskowin South Beach Home just in time for sunset and a Champagne-and-cupcakes happy hour on the home’s upper patio. The artful and delicious treats from My Petite Sweet paired perfectly with the jaw-dropping sunset colors and ocean views!
After enjoying three of the most perfect wind-free, sunny beach days, 4-year-old George finally got his wish on the final day of vacation: enough wind to fly his new kite. The windy send-off was the perfect way to cement his new love for Neskowin. Everyone left feeling rested, recharged and so happy for having discovered a new favorite Oregon Coast destination.
