Nothing lifts the spirits quite like a bar nook. To design this one for a former distillery owner living in the Alphabet District of Northwest Portland, Krisanna Sanders of Recast Homes added a sink, a 15-inch Marvel high-efficiency single-zone wine fridge, millwork and storage to a former dead zone at the top of a basement stair landing. Sanders says you should always start designing for a bar with what kind of drinks people in the home prefer. “They had a massive collection of spirits that weren’t being showcased,” Sanders says.
