Home is where the art is

WilliamsSonoma1The Williams-Sonoma Homestore in Portland inspires the ideal hostess in my head. She’s the one who graciously welcomes guests with drinks in Baccarat crystal chilled with chic and smart stainless steel “ice” cubes, serves hors d’oeuvres from the little wood-topped kitchen island, before settling back in an adorable little Parisian flea market chair to raise a glass and say “Cheers!”

The cold as design muse

TikkiTissueTARGETOn my umpteenth day of hacking and coughing — don’t worry, the computer screen doubles as a sneeze guard  —  my thoughts naturally turned to creating a stylish recovery room.

The Pink Swan Project

PSS_1Following up on their successful Pink Wishbone Project, SUITE New York has launched it’s second year benefit, The Pink Swan Project.  SUITE got nineteen fabulous designers to put their own spin on the classic Swan Chair, and they are just so darn pretty.

Old is the new new

She was beautiful, no question. She had great bones and an aura of elegance. But there was something romantically tragic about her past. She’d been neglected, fallen on hard times, an innocent victim of changing fashions who deserved better and stirred all my Dickensian rescue fantasies.

Historic buildings can do that.

The perfect bath

Some gourmands recall every detail of a favorite meal. Listening to their descriptions can be a tad uncomfortable. Fair warning: This may be worse. I want to wallow for a moment in the memory of the perfect bath.
